ABE Meeting Scholar Awards

ABE Scholar Awards are designed to support the attendance of students and faculty who submit an abstract to the Association of Biochemistry Educators (ABE) meeting. This award aims to ensure that deserving participants can engage in professional development, share their research, and contribute to the educational community at the conference.  A separate application to be considered for these awards is not required.

ABE Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award

Recognizes two ABE members who have submitted outstanding abstracts to the ABE Annual Meeting. Applications are evaluated based on the significance of the research topic, appropriateness of the methodology, quality of results interpretation, innovation, and clarity of presentation. Financial need will be considered for one award. Faculty from institutions with limited representation at ABE and those with fewer institutional resources are especially encouraged to apply.

Award Support: The award includes full coverage of conference registration and hotel accommodations for four nights at the conference site during the ABE Annual Meeting.

ABE Student Scholar Award

Recognizes a student who has submitted an exceptional abstract to the ABE Annual Meeting. Selection is based on the significance of the research topic, appropriateness of the methodology, quality of results interpretation, innovation, and clarity of presentation. A letter from an ABE member is required to verify the student's substantial contribution to the work.

Award Support: The award includes full coverage of conference registration and hotel accommodations for four nights at the conference site during the ABE Annual Meeting.

James L. Roberts Travel Fellowship Award

The Prof. James L Roberts Travel Fellowship Award honors Dr. James L. Roberts, a brilliant biochemist, neuroscientist and teacher. He inspired and trained well over 100 doctoral and post-doctoral students, clinicians, and technicians in biomedical research many of whom went onto leadership positions in academia, medical research, and biotechnology. He taught biochemistry to 1000's of graduate and medical students. This award is made possible by a generous donation to the ABE in the memory of Dr. Roberts.

Recognizes three faculty members who have submitted exemplary abstracts to the ABE Annual Meeting. Applicants are evaluated on the significance of the research topic, appropriateness of the methodology, quality of results interpretation, innovation, and clarity of presentation. The award supports early-career faculty members (within five years of appointment to a health sciences education track), faculty at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and faculty who identify as underrepresented in science or medicine.

Award Support: Recipients receive a one-year ABE membership, full conference registration, and hotel accommodations at the conference site for the duration of the ABE Annual Meeting.
