Dr. Sankhavaram R. Panini, a friend, colleague, and fellow ABE member, passed away peacefully on June 6th at the age of 72 after a long illness.  He was a well-recognized medical educator and an author of Medical Biochemistry - An Essential Textbook (Thieme Publishers).

Dr. Panini was born on August 8, 1950, in India and finished his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the prestigious Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India, at the age of 24. He pursued research and academics as a career. He held positions at several academic institutions in the U.S., including Emory University, culminating as the Chair of Basic Sciences and the Course Director of Biochemistry at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, Middletown, NY.  View online Obituary
